AT A GLANCE

The Alto Huallaga Project is located in the Peruvian Amazon, a biome which offers one of the highest carbon sequestration potentials globally.

A collaboration between Revalue and DETEC, it uses cutting-edge technology and community-driven techniques to protect intact forest while restoring degraded areas to produce radically better carbon credits combining avoidance, reforestation and agroforestry activities.

Alto Huallaga credits will be designed under Revalue's approaches Model V and Model R the best-rated avoidance approach by Sylvera. The credit design includes scientifically rigorous dynamic baseline checks, and LiDAR for more accurate biomass measurements.

PARTNERSHIP

Alto Huallaga is a collaboration between Revalue and DETEC, combining scientific innovation with a vast track record in nature projects.

DETEC is an experienced and trusted Peruvian NGO with:

  • Over three decades of experience implementing community-led and Indigenous conservation, restoration, and agroforestry projects across the Amazon and Andes.

  • Deep local government relationships and has partnered with local associations managing ~500,000 ha to improve livelihoods, protect forests, and restore degraded land through technical assistance and capacity building.

  • Over 15 active projects across forest protection, improved agricultural production and productive electricity use.

CREDIT APPROACH

The Alto Huallaga Project will be built on Revalue’s avoidance approach Model R and removals approach Model V.

Model R was rated top avoidance approach by Sylvera with the lowest risk score of 2/10 - on par with removals methodologies.

In Alto Huallaga, Revalue starts from Verra's VM0048 and VM0047 (both CCP-approved) then builds additional features on top.

Models R & V take existing standards as the starting line, not the finish line, ensuring the project’s credits are scientifically-rigorous and future-proof.

  • Scientifically rigorous dynamic baseline checks.

  • LiDAR for more accurate biomass measurements.

  • Advanced biodiversity baselining and monitoring using approaches such as eDNA and bioacoustics.

  • World-leading community engagement and baselining approaches, developed by Dr. Rumi Naito (architect of Katingan’s social engagement strategy).

BEYOND CARBON

The project covers nine community-managed forest concessions granted by the Peruvian state for conservation. Local associations hold management rights but need support to realise sustainable practices.

The project promotes zero-deforestation agroforestry, improved market access and certification, and community microprojects to boost food production, health, and local enterprise.

The project implements zero-deforestation cocoa and coffee systems to create premium market opportunities and long-term income for 550+ local producers.

Alto Huallaga is in the Amazonian lowland rainforests, which collectively harbour 14,000 plant species.
