AT A GLANCE

The Chihuahua Community Restoration Project is a landmark forest restoration and sustainable land management initiative in northern Mexico.

The project is a collaboration between Revalue and Toroto, a leading developer who has secured offtake agreements with major market players, like Microsoft.

Chihuahua credits will be designed under Revalue's removals approach Model V, which include scientifically rigorous dynamic baseline checks, and LiDAR for more accurate biomass measurements.

PARTNERSHIP

The project is a collaboration between Revalue and Toroto, combining cutting-edge science with a proven track record in project development.

Toroto has developed 4 large-scale projects in Mexico and has deep experience in community engagement and reforestation activity implementation.

Toroto regularly works in collaboration with ejidos communities to develop carbon projects which deliver significant social impacts.

CREDIT APPROACH

Chihuahua credits will be designed under Revalue's removals approach Model V.

The project will be aligned with leading methodologies:

  • Isometric’s Reforestation and IFM Protocols (Reforestation protocol is CCP-approved, IFM protocol is positioned for CCP approval after public consultation concludes)

  • VM0047 and VM0045 (CCP-approved)

  • Climate Action Reserve’s Mexico Forest Protocol (CCP-approved)

Revalue considers buyer requirements in methodological decisions.

Model V takes existing standards as the starting line, not the finish line, ensuring the project’s credits are scientifically-rigorous and future-proof.

  • Scientifically rigorous dynamic baseline checks.

  • LiDAR for more accurate biomass measurements.

  • Advanced biodiversity baselining and monitoring using approaches such as eDNA and bioacoustics.

  • World-leading community engagement and baselining approaches, developed by Dr. Rumi Naito (architect of Katingan’s social engagement strategy).

BEYOND CARBON

The project supports conservation and restoration across Ejidos whose livelihoods depend on forest resources. These Ejidos include Indigenous communities who will play an active role in project design and implementation.

Given the importance of logging in the region, the project introduces sustainable forest management and alternative income opportunities to secure long-term economic resilience.

Chihuahua channels a revenue share from carbon credit sales directly to local communities, ensuring communities get upside when carbon credit prices grow.

The project is located within the Madrean Pine–Oak Woodlands and Sinaloan Dry Forests - ecosystems recognised globally for their biodiversity significance. These ecosystems form a critical ecological corridor in northern Mexico.

  • Habitat for over 300 bird species, including the thick-billed parrot (endangered).

  • Home to Mexican grey wolves, black bears, and other keystone species.
