AT A GLANCE
The Yucatán Blue Carbon Project sits in unique “Petenes” — distinct islands of diverse vegetation, including tropical rainforest and mangroves, that emerge from a matrix of shallow, brackish marsh.
Yucatán credits will be designed under Revalue's removals approach Model V, which includes scientifically rigorous dynamic baseline checks, and LiDAR for more accurate biomass measurements.
The project is part of a portfolio-level collaboration between Revalue and a leading developer focused on projects that empower Indigenous leadership. Revalue has partnered with the developer to assess, prioritise and accelerate the portfolio.

PARTNERSHIP
The Yucatán Blue Carbon project is a collaboration between Revalue and a developer with a portfolio of 10 projects in Mexico, combining cutting-edge science with a proven track record.
The developer has deep experience working with Indigenous and local communities around the world. Their portfolio includes several Ejido-led projects in Mexico and First Nation-led land protection projects in Canada.
CREDIT APPROACH
Yucatán credits will be designed under Revalue's removals approach Model V.
The project will be aligned with leading methodologies:
Isometric’s Reforestation Protocol (CCP-approved)
Isometric’s Mangrove Protocol (positioned for CCP approval)
Climate Action Reserve’s Mexico Forest Protocol (CCP-approved)
Revalue considers buyer requirements in methodological decisions.
Model V takes existing standards as the starting line, not the finish line, ensuring the project’s credits are scientifically-rigorous and future-proof.
Scientifically rigorous dynamic baseline checks.
LiDAR for more accurate biomass measurements.
Advanced biodiversity baselining and monitoring using approaches such as eDNA and bioacoustics.
World-leading community engagement and baselining approaches, developed by Dr. Rumi Naito (architect of Katingan’s social engagement strategy).
BEYOND CARBON
The project will channel a revenue share from carbon credit sales directly to local communities, ensuring communities get upside when carbon credit prices grow.
The project will implement restoration and reforestation of native white, red and black mangroves, regenerating this biodiverse and ecologically important mangrove area.
The Yucatán region is one of the most biodiverse in Latin America, with extensive tropical forests, mangroves, reefs, and freshwater systems. It contains thousands of species across major taxonomic groups, including ~2,300 vascular plants and ~7,300 animal species.
